1943年10月2日凌晨,盟军庞大的炮击舰队在海面上四面八方将马绍尔的日军最后一个据点——Ailinglaplap环礁团团围住,展开了猛烈的炮击,随后美国陆军精锐骑兵一师在日军防线背侧顺利登陆,同岛上的陆军七师和陆战一师里应外合,一举攻陷了被盟军称为“伤心岛”的马绍尔群岛最大的环礁。
