, {( |+ y4 E/ i7 @$ l3 z( M自6月盟军在澳洲北部领地展开进攻以来,盟军的动作坚决而稳定,不断一步步逼近日军的核心基地群,6月27日,又一队满载着工兵部队和工程装备的运输船队准备接近盟军最新占领的Gove基地卸货,被日军巡逻机提前侦知,坐镇达尔文指挥的日军第四舰队司令长官立即下令组织高速驱逐舰队火速夜袭。同时,为了确保舰队的安全,组织了大量战斗机和轰炸机在白昼对盟军基地进行战斗压制,战斗的警报瞬间再次响彻整个达尔文,帝国航空兵部队将士明知此去凶多吉少,仍然默默带上头盔登机出发。

双方战斗机在天空大打出手,日军轰炸机部队乘机突入港口,对Gove港口进行了轰炸,虽然在战斗的后半段被盟军战斗机发现并截击,损失了一些飞机,但大部分轰炸机还是成功地完成了轰炸任务并安全撤退,由于被轰炸机群吸引,盟军的战斗机部队在最后也遭到了最后一个到场的紫电改机队的迎头痛击,分散追击中的盟军战斗机被击落相当数量,是当天盟军损失的主要来源。
